Grade 1 Atocha CoinsGrade 1 Atocha coins were salvaged from the interior most
portion of the treasure chest, and thus exhibit minimal amounts of salt
water damage. Typically, they are clearly struck on both the obverse
and reverse sides with the mintmark, assayer mark and denomination often
all visible. Atocha coins are supplied with the
original photo type Certificate of Authenticity .

Grade
1-, a nice "as struck" coin with no signs of salt water
corrosion, but with flatness on the cross side that obscures
much of the cross details. Because of the coin's very
heavy weight and large diameter, lots of legend is visible
around the edge, including the full King's ordinal III (Philip
III) at the 5 o'clock position on the shield side. The
cross side details identify this coin as being struck in 1617 or
later. Supplied with the original photo type
Certificate of Authenticity.
A heavy, uncorroded grade 1 coin offered at a great price. |

Grade
1, nice full cross with a particularly well detailed castle in
the lower right cross quadrant, but with the other lions and castle visible
to varying degrees also.
The cross side also has a bold cross "+" visible at the top. Nearly full, slightly double struck shield with the denomination
mark VIII (8 reales) and most of the King's name visible at
right. The assayer is listed as not visible on the
certificate, but the cross side lion and castle design is that
of assayer Q, early in his tenure in office (1613-1616).
Supplied with the original photo type Certificate of
Authenticity.
A nicely struck coin with well centered details and lots of
visible legend on both sides. |

Grade 1+,
nice full, slightly double struck cross with all lions and castles visible
in the cross quadrants along with the cross "+" above. The
cross side lions are transposed (located in the quadrants
normally occupied by the castles). But, most importantly
on the cross side are the clear digits 2 and 0 of the
date 1620
(the 2 looks like a Z) visible between the 8 and 10 o'clock position
along the edge. The right side of a second 0 is also
visible to the right of the first which looks like "ZOO".
This is the second "ZOO" coin that we have seen from the Atocha.
The shield side exhibits an exceptional deep struck
shield with mint and assayer marks
P and T at left and a nearly complete crown above. Dated cobs, even partially dated ones, are very collectable and are relatively uncommon finds from the Atocha,
particularly nice grade 1 coins like this
heavy weight specimen. Supplied with the new style
Mel Fisher's photo type Certificate of Authenticity. |

to the 8 reales denomination coin and are in high demand.
