Grade 1+, Beautiful, perfectly centered full shield with bold mint and assayer marks P and M at left and a very rare vertical style denomination mark IIII (4 reales) at right.  The denomination mark on Potosi coins are normally horizontally orientated with very rare exceptions.  Because of this, the coin bezel was installed with the intent of wearing the coin with the shield side facing out, although it can be worn either way.  The cross is nearly as nice with sharp details on the lower quadrant lion and castle.  The upper quadrant lion and castle are well struck, but obscured slightly due to the planchet split caused during striking (but does not negatively affect the coins structural integrity).  This is a very rare and very high end 4 reales Atocha coin with nice details and great eye appeal. Coin is mounted in a 14k gold bezel with fixed bale, and with bezel, is almost the size of a silver dollar.  Supplied with the original photo type Certificate of Authenticity issued with all Vanguard coins.  Also included, is the booklet "Shipwrecks and Their Coins: Volume 1 - 1622 Spanish Treasure Fleet" that provides details about the fleet and its coins, and the book "Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon", personally autographed by the author, Syd Jones.

Grade 2+, full cross with reversed lions and castles visible in the cross quadrants and with the lions and castles of the style of assayer T circa 1620.  Beautiful, bold, deep struck, full shield - slightly offset to the left so that the mint and assayer marks P and T are off the planchet and thus not visible.  A very nice grade 2 coin - on par with many grade 1 coins.  Coin is mounted in a 14k gold bezel with fixed bale, and with bezel, is slightly larger than a half dollar in size.  Supplied with the original photo type Certificate of Authenticity.

Grade 3, partial cross with lightly detailed lions and castles visible in the cross quadrants.  Nearly full shield with a light mint mark P at left and a clear assayer mark (monogrammed PAL) below the P.  Coins of assayer PAL are rare, minted only in 1618, and are highly prized by those  collecting Atocha coins by assayer.  This coin is struck with both sides in near perfect alignment and can be worn with either side facing out.  Both sides display corrosion typical of grade 3 coins.  A rare Atocha coin offered at a very reasonable price.  Coin is mounted in a silver bezel with fixed bale, and with bezel, is slightly larger than a half dollar in size.  Supplied with the original photo type Certificate of Authenticity.  Also included, is the booklet "Shipwrecks and Their Coins: Volume 1 - 1622 Spanish Treasure Fleet" that provides details about the fleet and its coins.
